Milia are small keratin-filled cysts located just beneath the thin skin. Indications: Typical milia on the lower eyelids and around the eyes, confirmed by the dermatologist during skin examination. The procedure is usually completed in one session when only a few milia are present. If there are multiple scattered lesions, treatment may be divided into two sessions to avoid irritating the delicate eyelid skin at once. Treatment process

6 steps, clinically led

Step 1: Examination and skin analysis to establish the lesion type

The dermatologist examines each zone around the eye, comparing morphology, firmness and distribution to separate syringomas from skin tags and milia. This step is free.

Step 2: Confirming method, expected session count and cost

Based on lesion type, number and distance from the lid margin, the dermatologist selects the technique, estimates sessions as a range, and quotes the cost before you decide to proceed.

Caring for the eye area in the first 7 days

The most important thing is to avoid rubbing the eyes or picking at the scabs. The small scabs that form over each treated spot act as the body’s natural biological dressing, protecting the underlying healing tissue. Removing them too early can reopen an unhealed wound and, on delicate eyelid skin, may result in shallow depressions or persistent hyperpigmentation.

During the first 24–48 hours, avoid letting facial cleansers or makeup removers run over the healing area. Clean the rest of the face as usual, while gently dabbing around the eyes with clean gauze.

Temporarily avoid eye makeup, mascara, and contact lenses until the dermatologist advises that they can be resumed.

During the first week, wear large sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat. Sunscreen should only be applied after the scabs have completely fallen off, taking care to avoid contact with the eyes.

How to Treat Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation Around the Eyes

After the scab falls off, the newly exposed skin may appear pink or darker than the surrounding skin for some time. This is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), not scarring. Compared with other areas, hyperpigmentation around the eyes is often more difficult to manage because the skin is thinner, placing pigment closer to the surface. This area is also frequently exposed to sunlight, while eye rubbing and pressure from eyeglass frames can further irritate the healing skin.

Why new lesions can still appear?

A well-healed treatment site does not necessarily mean the condition has been fully resolved, especially with syringomas. The underlying tendency to develop these lesions can persist, so new papules may appear in nearby areas months or even years later. Most patients may need a follow-up session to treat newly developed lesions rather than retreating the original ones. Do syringomas grow back after removal?

A lesion that has been fully removed does not return to that exact spot, but the underlying tendency remains, so new ones can appear nearby. Syringomas are the group most likely to reappear because the sweat duct they arise from sits deep, while skin tags rarely return once the stalk has been taken with the growth. What is a syringoma?

A syringoma is a benign tumor of the sweat duct: a firm papule of about 1–3 mm, skin-colored to slightly yellow, that grows in clusters and is usually fairly symmetric across both lower lids. Because the duct of origin sits deeper than the skin surface, syringomas behave quite differently from skin tags even though the two look similar at a glance. They are not contagious and they do not clear on their own.

Syringoma vs milia — what is the difference?

A syringoma is a firm, skin-colored papule arising from a sweat duct, and it grows in clusters; milia are firm, off-white grains of about 1–2 mm that are small cysts of trapped keratin sitting just under the surface. Do syringomas go away on their own?
