About the Nd:YAG 1064 Laser

About the Nd:YAG 1064 Laser

Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It emits high-energy light at specific wavelengths, which, when focused on targeted skin conditions, generates heat to selectively destroy the affected cells. The Nd:YAG laser emits a beam derived from a neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:Y₃Al₅O₁₂) crystal — a compound made up of neodymium, yttrium, aluminum, and oxygen. This crystal produces a continuous and powerful wavelength capable of penetrating deep into the skin, effectively targeting and eliminating the root causes of pigmentation concerns.

Mechanism of Action

Mechanism of Action

The Nd:YAG laser emits a 1064 nm wavelength that can penetrate 2–6 mm beneath the skin’s surface, reaching lesions located deep within the dermis. Its laser beam specifically targets melanin at various depths in or on the skin, effectively treating conditions such as solar lentigines, freckles, Ota nevus, Ito nevus, Mongolian spots, Hori’s nevus, and café-au-lait macules. In addition to pigmentation correction, the Nd:YAG laser also stimulates collagen production, promoting skin rejuvenation. Compared to many other laser types, the Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser can reach deeper layers, allowing for the treatment of a wider range of dermatological concerns.

Advantages

Why choose this treatment

Safety: The Nd:YAG laser is classified as a non-invasive laser technology. Its energy is converted into controlled heat, precisely targeting and destroying specific structures or pigment molecules while minimizing damage to the surrounding tissues.
No Downtime Required: The Nd:YAG laser selectively targets melanin without affecting surrounding cells. As a result, patients can resume their normal daily activities immediately after treatment, with no need for extended recovery or downtime.
Minimized Risk: The Nd:YAG laser treatment minimizes adverse reactions such as pigmentary disorders, scarring, or blistering, ensuring both safety and effectiveness throughout the procedure.
Painless Procedure: The Nd:YAG laser does not affect healthy skin cells surrounding the treated area, ensuring a comfortable, pain-free experience with no bleeding or discomfort during the procedure.

Treatment process

8 steps, clinically led

1

Step 1: Assess the skin condition before treatment

Before starting the treatment, the dermatologist will perform a detailed skin analysis and assessment. This process helps identify the types of pigmentation such as melasma, freckles, or dark spots, along with their underlying causes and the severity of skin damage.

2

Step 2: Develop a personalized melasma treatment plan

After the assessment, the dermatologist will design a personalized treatment protocol tailored to each client. Since every individual has different skin characteristics and underlying conditions, the treatment approach must be customized accordingly. The doctor will discuss various melasma treatment options, clearly explaining the benefits, potential risks, and cost considerations of each method, helping you make the most suitable and informed decision for your skin.

3

Step 3: Remove makeup, cleanse, and exfoliate the skin

Before starting melasma treatment, the skin needs to be thoroughly prepared. The first step involves makeup removal and deep cleansing to eliminate impurities, excess oil, and any remaining makeup residue. Next, exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, allowing treatment products and laser energy to penetrate more effectively. This is a crucial step that significantly enhances overall treatment results.

4

Step 4: Sanitize and sterilize medical instruments before melasma treatment

At WEDO, client safety is always our top priority. Before performing any melasma treatment, we ensure that all medical instruments are thoroughly sterilized following strict hygiene protocols. Every sanitation process complies with international medical standards, minimizing the risk of infection or unwanted side effects during the treatment procedure.

5

Step 5: Perform treatment procedures for melasma, freckles, and dark spots

Once the skin has been properly prepared, the treatment process begins. Depending on the personalized treatment plan, the dermatologist will apply the appropriate melasma and pigmentation correction technologies as prescribed. Clients typically experience a comfortable and gentle procedure. Each session is quick and efficient, usually lasting between 30 minutes to 1 hour.

6

Step 6: Electrophoresis therapy for hydration and skin recovery after melasma treatment

After completing the treatment, the skin is nourished with specialized post-procedure recovery products. These formulations deeply hydrate, soothe, and restore the skin, leaving it smoother, plumper, and more radiant. Post-treatment recovery plays a crucial role in helping the skin heal faster, maintain moisture balance, and preserve its softness and healthy glow.

7

Step 7: Apply nourishing cream/serum and sunscreen

One of the most essential steps is applying a specialized nourishing cream or serum to support skin regeneration and maintain hydration. In addition, sunscreen application is crucial to protect the skin from UV exposure — one of the primary causes of melasma and freckles reappearing.

8

Step 8: Post-treatment guidance and home care instructions

After the melasma treatment, the dermatologist will provide detailed post-care instructions to ensure proper skin recovery. Additionally, our skincare specialist will create an online care group to connect clients directly with the doctor. This allows for continuous monitoring and follow-up, ensuring that your skin’s healing progress is closely observed and well-supported after treatment.

Healthy and Balanced Diet

A well-balanced daily diet plays a vital role in maintaining overall health — and is especially important for achieving clear, radiant skin. To improve melasma, it’s essential to provide your body with the right nutrients that support skin repair and regeneration.

“Superfoods” for Melasma-Prone Skin

  • Leafy greens and fruits: Dark leafy vegetables and fresh fruits are rich in vitamin C, which boosts collagen production, supports skin cell renewal, and helps fade pigmentation.
  • Whole grains: Packed with fiber and B vitamins, whole grains help regulate blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation, and improve overall skin condition.
  • Nuts and seeds: Almonds, walnuts, and cashews are high in vitamin E, an antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage.

Foods to Avoid After Melasma Treatment

  • Sugar: Excessive sugar intake can increase insulin levels, stimulate melanin production, and worsen pigmentation.
  • Processed foods: Fried or fast foods high in oil, preservatives, and unhealthy fats can trigger inflammation and harm skin health.
  • Dairy products: Some people may be sensitive to lactose, which can cause inflammation and aggravate melasma.

Protecting the Skin from Sun Exposure

Sun exposure is one of the main causes of melasma and freckles, making sun protection an essential part of skincare. Always apply sunscreen with an appropriate SPF before going outdoors, and try to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours to minimize UV damage and prevent pigmentation from returning.

Maintain a Consistent Daily Skincare Routine

  • Use brightening serums or creams: Incorporate products containing vitamin C, niacinamide, or other brightening ingredients to maintain post-treatment results and prevent melasma recurrence.
  • Apply a gentle moisturizer: After treatment, the skin may become dry and sensitive. Use mild, fragrance-free moisturizers to maintain hydration and support faster skin recovery. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid to deeply moisturize without irritation.
  • Avoid irritating ingredients: Choose skincare products free from fragrance, alcohol, and harsh chemicals to minimize the risk of sensitivity or inflammation.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink 2–3 liters of water daily to keep your skin moisturized, smooth, and healthy from within.
