General Information

Is your skin…somewhat sensitive?

Sensitive skin is skin that reacts to ingredients in skincare products, chemicals, and environmental conditions (weather, extreme temperatures). Sensitive skin can also result from allergies (such as rashes caused by fragrance ingredients) or irritation (for example, if acne treatment products like benzoyl peroxide or glycolic acid cause rashes or cracked skin).

Sensitive skin is often more permeable than normal skin. This has two main drawbacks: – The body’s essential natural moisture escapes more quickly, and “harmful” ingredients penetrate your skin more easily. The good news is that you can improve this “damaged skin barrier.” It’s crucial to consistently treat your skin gently and replenish its moisture. This is the most effective way to keep sensitive skin healthy.

Below is the foundation for building a gentle, moisturizing skincare routine for sensitive skin. If you follow this simple regimen, your sensitive skin will soon feel fantastic!

1. Use only gentle cleansers for your skin Use gentle skin cleansers, apply them only where needed, and cleanse with lukewarm (not too hot) or cool water. – For the body: You don’t need as much soap as you think, only use it on dirty areas or areas with body odor glands (armpits, groin, buttocks, soles of the feet). If your skin is oily, you’ll also need a facial cleanser for oily areas on your back, neck, and chest. – For the face: Use the gentlest facial cleanser.

Be cautious of the “squeaky clean” feeling after washing. That sensation means you’ve stripped away too much natural oil and are actually irritating your skin. – For your hands: Since you wash your hands multiple times a day, keep unscented, gentle foaming soap nearby for each wash (except in special circumstances like during COVID, when you must use antibacterial soap – however, we have a solution: follow our hand moisturizing tips below in section 4).

2. Use hypoallergenic skincare products Sensitive skin is often prone to allergies from ingredients like: – Fragrances – Preservatives – Anti-aging ingredients like Glycolic Acid, Vitamin C, Retinoids – Acne treatment ingredients like Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide – Some sunscreen ingredients (only some; products with zinc oxide are usually very unlikely to cause allergies). In short, use gentle, hypoallergenic products for most of your daily skincare needs.

3. Shower and cleanse your skin properly Showering can either hydrate or dry out your skin. Remember that hot water removes more skin oils than lukewarm or cool water, which isn’t good. Showering and washing your face with the right frequency and water temperature will maintain your skin’s moisture. We’ve already covered the use of soap and cleansers in section 1.

4. Always apply moisturizer immediately after showering/washing You need to apply moisturizer within three minutes after your skin is dry (free of water). You can skip the body if it’s not too dry. Product selection should be based on your skin type. This ensures proper hydration without clogging pores or leaving your skin feeling oily and heavy.

Beyond your skin, don’t forget that your lips need a layer of lip balm too. Sensitive skin can be a challenge. The good news is that once you stick to a routine and use the right products, you’ll have healthy skin and feel happy.
